Kissed needs 'ease in ground' for Oaks

AIDAN O'BRIEN has declared his six fillies for Friday's Investec Oaks at Epsom, but warned Kissed - a general 6-1 chance - will run only if there is ease in the ground.

There were no withdrawals from the Oaks at Wednesday's declaration stage so 14 go to post with The Fugue and Vow looking most likely to stop O'Brien adding to the 2,000 and 1,000 Guineas he won at Newmarket this month.

However, his challenge will be reduced if the unbeaten Kissed does not run.

A tweet from @aobballydoyle read: "We will declare all 6 fillies to run in the Oaks on Friday but Kissed will only run if there is an ease in the ground."

THERE is no race, anywhere on earth, laden with as much history and prestige as the Epsom Derby. Conjured by 18th century aristocrats sitting over dinner it soon became the pre-eminent contest for three-year-olds and would go on to inspire hundreds of imitator races across the globe.

It remains a truly national sporting event. 125,000 descend on the Downs on the day of the race for a very British party. Double decker buses disgorge sun-seekers in everything from flip-flops to cocktail dresses, barbecues are sparked and laden with British bangers and bookies tout the favourite as a gambling frenzy erupts in the build-up to the race.
